The City of Keene Public Works Department will continue its annual spring water main flushing program Sunday, May 9th at 10:00 PM. Work will be performed at night between the hours of 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM to minimize any inconvenience to our customers in the form of discolored water or traffic delays.
This maintenance program is designed to clean mineral deposits from the water mains and allows us to exercise city water valves and hydrants to keep them operational for firefighting, water main breaks and other emergencies.
The fourth week of flushing will end at 6:00 AM on Friday, May 14th.
The following areas will be affected during the week:
- Base Hill Rd
- Winchester St, Krif Rd,
- Key Rd, Meadow Rd, Pearl Street
- Lower Main St, Greenwood Neighborhood,
- Branch Rd, Roxbury Rd, Chapman Rd, and Rte 101, Marlboro Rd.,
- River Street, Woodburn Street,
- Davis, Wilson and Blake Streets and Ralston Street.
We apologize in advance for any inconvenience you may experience and ask for your patience during this process which should run 3-4 weeks. If you experience any discolored water, close all taps in your home except one, run your cold water for 10 minutes and water should run clear. If water does not clear up, close the tap, wait 30 minutes and repeat process again. If you experience any laundry staining, please do not dry the laundry and contact Public Works at 352-6550. We will give you a product designed to remove the stains.
