Seed and Tool Library Opens for the Growing Season

The Keene Public Library is pleased to announce that the Monadnock Grows Together Seed and Tool Library is ready to fill requests.

Gail Zachariah, Head of Engagement at the Keene Public Library, explains that patrons fill out an easy online to request seeds. The form lists the many varieties of vegetables, flowers, herbs that the seed library offers. After the form is submitted, the library will contact patrons to arrange to pick up their seeds. Gardners can find the online form at http://bit.ly/KeeneSeeds.

Gardeners can also check out a seed starting kit which includes a grow lamp, heat mat, tray and flat, and seed starting information. Soon we will have microgreen growing kits available too. To reserve a kit, please call the library at 603-352.0157.

To kick-off the gardening season's start, the library offers a special virtual workshop with gardening expert Charlie Nardozzi on Monday, March 15, at 6:30 pm. This event will be provided on Zoom. To receive an invitation, please register on the library's online calendar at keenepubliclibrary.evanced.info/signup.

Whether you garden in a small, urban backyard or on several acres in the country, no-dig gardening lets you grow more food and blooms than ever before. The approach leads to reduced watering needs and a healthy population of beneficial soil microbes, which will help break down organic matter and release helpful nutrients.

Charlie Nardozzi is a nationally recognized garden writer, speaker, and radio and television personality. Charlie has three radio shows in New England, including All Things Gardening on Vermont Public Radio and In the Garden TV segments on WCAX Channel 3.

The event will be captioned. If you require another access service to participate or have any questions about accessibility fully, please contact Gail Zachariah at 603-352-0157 or gzachariah@ci.keene.nh.us. To ensure the best experience, please try to contact us at your earliest convenience.

All programs at the Keene Public Library are free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Gail Zachariah at gzachariah@ci.keene.nh.us.
