Children who don't read over the summer experience summer learning loss. That's right -- kids don't just feel like they've forgotten some of what they've learned -- they actually do forget it. And the effect is cumulative. Kids who lose reading skills over the summer will be two years behind their classmates by the end of 6th grade.
By joining the Summer Reading and Learning Club and attending free library programs, kids can prevent this from happening.
We have four separate programs (Very Young Kids, School Age Kids, Teens, and Adults) so you can choose the one that fits you best. By logging minutes read, events attended, and challenges/activities completed, you earn chances to win library and Bruins prizes, digital badges and certificates, and special
invitations from local organizations.
Register online or in person starting on June 12th. Then begin recording the time you spend reading or listening to books.
Visit the library often and participate in all the free programming we have to offer such as Terrific Tuesdays, Family Films, Gaming Programs, and Camp Fun to Read.
Visit our website at www.keenepubliclibrary.org for a calendar of events. The last day of our Summer Reading & Learning Clubs will be August 20th!
