The Keene Public Library will offer a series of programs for children and families on mindfulness and yoga. The first program is a film screening of the documentary “Mindfulness Be Happy Now” on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 2 p.m. Then on Saturdays, May 19th through June 30th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m, the Keene Public Library will host a weekly Family Yoga Storytime.
These sessions offer a warm and supportive environment for parents and caregivers to explore how yoga and Mindfulness can introduce a way to nurture their bond and connect with their children. At a weekly Radiant Child® Mindfulness and Family Yoga storytime children can jump into playful yoga poses through dance and music with our Radiant Child® yoga teacher Ditteke Ederveen-Gorman. This program is unique in that it will also introduce children to Mindfulness activities to encourage positive social skills and connect children with their feelings. Radiant Child® Mindfulness and Yoga Family Storytime will be held in the Youth Department, 60 Winter Street. Registration is not required. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Keene Public Library.
Mindfulness is the practice of enhancing awareness, beginning with ourselves and then our surroundings, using breath as the anchor. Clinical studies have documented both physical and mental health benefits of mindfulness in children and adults. Practicing mindfulness can help kids learn to focus, manage stress, regulate emotions, and develop a positive outlook.
