FAQ: While the Library is Closed

  • Can I check out books while you're closed?

    Curbside pick-up of requested materials will resume on Thursday, May 28. Pick-up times are as follows:

    Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
    Tuesday and Thursday: 12 p.m. - 7 p.m.

    Patrons will be notified that items are available for pick-up by email (for patrons with valid email addresses on record) or by phone.  Please do not come for your materials until you have been notified that they are available.

    When you arrive to pick up your materials, please observe physical distancing from the staff by following posted instructions regarding boundaries.

    All items will be checked out for one month but you may return them earlier.

  • What about the books and other materials I already have checked out?

    The book drops re-opened for returns on May 11.  All materials that were checked out before the library closed have been renewed until JULY 1 but may be returned sooner.  But please do NOT put donations in the book drops.  We are unable to take donations at this time and need to keep the book drops available for return of library materials.

    We have also suspended fines for the period that the library building is closed to the public.


  • Can I place holds while you're closed?

    Holds on available materials can be placed starting Tuesday, May 26, online through the catalog or by calling the library.  Holds on materials that are currently checked out can be placed now.  Curbside pick-up of requested materials will start on Thursday, May 28.  Please note that due to the volume of requests, it can take up to a day for materials to become available for pick-up.

  • How can I get a library card while you're closed?

    We can issue library card numbers by phone so that residents can access our online resources, including digital books, right away.  New library accounts will have a 3-month expiration date until the account application and verification process is complete.   • How can I renew my library card while you're closed?

    All library accounts which had not already expired have been renewed to JULY 1.  If you have any questions about your library account you can call the library Monday-Friday, 9 am - 4:30 pm, and speak with Susan Hansmeier.


  • Can I call with reference questions?

    Staff are in the building to answer phone calls between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can also use the Contact Us form to submit questions which will be answered by email as staff availability permits.

    Starting Tuesday, May 26, staff will be available to answer calls:

    Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
    Tuesday, Thursday  9 a.m. - 7 p.m.

  • What about tax forms and the tax aide program?

    The tax filing deadline has been extended to July 15, 2020.  You may find forms online at
    The Keene post office has our remaining supply of tax forms and instruction booklets.
    From the AARP website:   “In response to the national emergency and to protect our employees, America’s taxpayers, communities and our partners, the IRS has temporarily closed all Taxpayer Assistance Centers and discontinued face-to-face service throughout the country until further notice.”
