1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Keene Public Library has joined libraries nationwide to offer this multi-year reading program to support parents of babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Please register for our program in person in the Youth Department or online

This program is ideal for parents to track reading and know that every book they read with their child is moving toward their future success. It develops an excellent foundation for children to be ready for school while, at the same time, fostering a love of reading in their household.

HOW CAN I READ 1000 BOOKS? It's easy!

  • One book a day for three years=1000
  • Three books a day for one year=1000
  • Ten books a week for two years=1000

WHAT COUNTS?  Everything! Every book you read counts every time you read it! Books your child hears in Storytime count. Books that others read to your child count. It all counts!

HOW DO I SIGN UP? Please register for our program in person in the Youth Department or online. If you register in person, you will receive a notebook to keep track of the titles you share with your child and lists of suggested books. Then, all you need to do is start reading! If you register online, just ask for your notebook the next time you are in the Youth Department.
