Habitat Restoration

One of the City's goals for Beaver Brook is to improve habitat in and along the brook. The Watershed Grant through NHDES allowed the City to retain Moosewood Ecological Services to develop a restoration plan for the brook. Some of the recommendations include:

  • Control of invasive plant species
  • Changes to streamside and storm drainage system maintenance practices
  • Streamside re-vegetation strategies
  • Stormwater control and pollution prevention strategies
  • Alteration of terrain
  • Public outreach actions

The City has begun to implement some of the recommendations, including a pilot project to control selected stands of invasive plant species and a re-vegetation project at selected sites within Woodlawn Cemetery. Other recommendations will be evaluated to see which ones may be practical for implementation.
