Beaver Brook Mitigation Project Image

Summary

The City has selected Sumco-Eco Contracting from Salem Massachusetts to perform the necessary work on Beaver Brook. Sumco-Eco has extensive experience working on river restoration and bank stabilization, pond dredging and maintenance, and freshwater wetlands projects. Along with Sumco-Eco, the City will be having Weston and Sampson Engineering provide an individual that will be on site full time to oversee the project when the contractor is performing work.

Construction activities is continuing with work on Beaver Brook downsream of Water Street extending across Marlborough and Baker Street to Route 101 in the months of January and February. The contractor will continue working the brook in segments, completing one area before moving to the next.  The following pictures illustrate the contsruction progress.

    The general schedule for this project is as follows:

• Harrison Street - Water Street - November 26, 2013 to December 13, 2013
• Water Street to Marlboro Street - through January 31, 2014
• Marlboro Street-NH Rt 101 - February 28, 2014
• Beaver Street to Spring Street - March 31, 2014 to April 11, 2014

Note the schedule is subject to change based upon weather conditions and field conditions which are encountered.

Final restoration and plantings will occur in the spring of 2014.  Beginning this project later in the season will allow the ground to be frozen, minimizing the potential damage to grass covered areas.
