Parks
To address active and passive recreational needs of the community, the city should prepare a Parks Master Plan that will identify gaps in the park system. This plan could also initiate a park-classification system and associated standards. It would also outline a specific strategy for including improvements in the city’s Capital Improvement Program.
Some ideas that came out of the public process for the community’s parks include:
- Providing dog parks
- Creating small playgrounds or “tot lots” in neighborhoods
- Building a permanent skate park that is integrated into a more traditional park-like atmosphere
- Expanding the Ashuelot River Park and Green Corridor
- Creating a park by the Stone Arch Bridge on Route 101
