Workplace Harassment Policy
The City of Keene does not condone workplace harassment of any of our employees. Such harassing conduct violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 when it has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual's work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive working environment. Readers should note that these principles apply not only to sexual harassment, but also to harassment on the basis of any other classification, including race, color, religion, national origin, ethnicity, age, disability, pregnancy, marital status, sexual orientation, or veteran status.
The City will not tolerate conduct that is harassing, intimidating, threatening or violent, including, but not limited to, inappropriate or harassing comments, jokes, references, and/or mannerisms; threats of violence; physical challenges to fight; stalking; inappropriate or harassing physical contact; inappropriate communications of any type; attempted assault or assaulting of any employee at or away from the workplace.
Anyone found in violation of this policy will be subject to severe disciplinary or civil action as is allowed under Title VII regulations. This policy covers vendors, customers, taxpayers, residents, and/or others who enter our workplace or worksite, as well as all employees. If necessary, local law enforcement officials will be involved to ensure the safety of our employees.
