Commercial Building Inspector
The City of Keene is seeking applicants for a full-time Commercial Building Inspector position in the Health and Code Enforcement Department. Successful candidate will be charged with building regulations and inspections of building construction, erection, repair, addition, or alteration projects that require permitting to ensure compliance with building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, energy, accessibility, and other construction codes as required by state law and City ordinances. The focus of the employees efforts are on complex commercial projects which generally are of high dollar value and exposure. In addition, the employee is responsible for supervision, coordination, and verification of Architects and Engineers participation in Special Inspections as required by the Building Code, including soils suitability, structural elements, concrete, masonry, steel reinforcement, grouting, wood framing, fireproofing, wind, and seismic quality assurance.
A commercial plans examination or inspector’s certificate issued by the International Code Council is required at time of hire. Within three years, the successful candidate must become certified as a Combination Commercial Inspector or Certified Building Official. Minimum qualification includes 10 years’ combined experience in the field of construction or a related field, building inspection, or plans review; or a combination of postsecondary education in the field of construction or a related field and experience which totals 10 years, with at least five years of such total being experience in construction, building inspection, or plans review. A valid driver’s license is also required. Starting pay rate is $27.54/hour with excellent benefits.
Employee is regularly required to sit, use hands; required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
